This department assists the CTA laboratory in a complementary or extended capacity for the purpose of answering questions and solving problems of an analytical nature. The laboratory is equipped with the latest analytical measuring devices, which are designed to tackle the most challenging problems originating from the brewing industry within the realm of quality assurance.
How is the competition doing?
Wouldn’t you like to know how your beer compares to the ones brewed by the competition? You can find out through anonymous participation in the beer carousel at the Weihenstephan Research Center. The objective of this project is to provide customers with a means for comparing their own beer with others on the market. This kind of evaluation can be of assistance in pinpointing the cause of specific issues, with the ultimate goal of identifying and correcting weak points in production. In this way, the quality of your products can be improved even more.
Recommended not only for instances when atypical aromas are present. Determining the aroma profile is not only advantageous in the event that shortcomings have been discovered, but also in the instance that the beer seems to be of a particularly high quality with respect to its aroma profile. It is essential that these results show a clear correlation with production conditions. They are significantly more suitable for optimizing quality than are standard values.
Seal of Quality
The seal of quality, known as the “Weihenstephan Quality Standard”, provides a unique marketing instrument.
The seal is displayed very clearly on the label and offers the opportunity to call the consumer’s attention to the exceptional integrity of the product and the routine monitoring it undergoes at a neutral institute.

With the pilot brewery at the Department of Research and Development, test batches of any type of beer can be produced, which are brewed either according to the German Purity Law or not, i.e. through the addition of unmalted cereals and/or starch sources particular to certain countries around the world. Fermented malt beverages and beverages containing malt can also be produced.
The Hygienic Design department of the Weihenstephan Research Center for Brewing and Food Quality is a global leader in the application of methods for testing the hygienic design properties of fittings and components.
