Hygienic Design

The Research Center Weihenstephan for Brewing and Food Quality is a member of the EHEDG. The EHEDG is an organization that provides solutions for problems relating to hygienic design. It influences the legislators of international regulations and standards, and determines the state of the art.

The EHEDG develops and publishes various guidelines on the individual topics of hygiene design. They are used as a reference for the design of fittings and components in the food sector and impart a wealth of practical experience.

The Hygienic Design department of the Research Center Weihenstephan provides the industry with support in matters of component cleanability. By using various EHEDG test methods, it tests the hygienic design properties of fittings and components.

An accredited test lab is available for hygienic design analysis. The accreditation in accordance with DIN EN ISO 17025 relates to the “microbiological hygiene testing of food processing machines and apparatus”.

In cooperation with the EHEDG, the test laboratory offers various test methods to investigate fittings. Furthermore, these can be certified on behalf of the EHEDG.

Test Center

The test center for all microbiological hygiene tests that the Research Center Weihenstephan performs is located within the School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan, in the food technology center of the TUM.

Access via the Emil-Erlenmeyer-Forum road to Wendeplatz in 85354 Freising.

Test Methods

The EHEDG has developed multiple test methods for the practical testing of equipment and apparatus. To support machine, plant and component manufacturers and food processors these components are tested and certified for cleanability, sterilizability and penetration resistance.
